Music for Noisy Places is original ambient music for focus, rest, and sleep. Each piece is set in a room: a bamboo grove after rain, a warm stone bathhouse, the tundra under the northern lights. The music holds steady for hours, with no swells and no sudden changes. Every piece can be adjusted while it plays, so you can turn the drums down or turn the stream into plain brown noise. It also helps cover the noise around you. The first room, The Bamboo Grove, is free and complete. The music is composed by people. Made in California. Peace, even here.

About the app

Who makes the music, and is any of it AI?

People do. It is written, arranged and mixed by humans, and original to this app. We do use our own software to extend our music according to rules we set. Think of it more like a capable arpeggiator than like artificial intelligence.

That is different from generative AI like Suno. Those models are trained on existing recordings and return a finished track from a prompt. Our software does not work that way. It produces notes, not audio. People set the harmony, keep or rewrite every phrase, and play it through instruments we license and mix ourselves.

Where we do use AI is the pictures. The videos on our channels are made with AI, and each one says so. Our ads use AI actors, and say so on each platform. The music is not.

Rooms

A room is a place the music puts you, and it is how the app is organized. There are five: The Bamboo Grove, which is free, then The Baths, The Sanctum, The Dunes and The Tundra. Each holds four pieces. The four run along one dial, from bright enough to work in to deep enough to sleep through. The deep pieces stay full and steady all night.

The parts can be adjusted while a piece plays

Each piece is built from parts you can hear on their own: the pads, the bass, the drums, the stream underneath. Any part can be turned up, down or off while the music plays. The stream can also be switched to plain brown, pink or white noise. That is in every piece, including the free ones.

No accounts, and it works offline

There are no accounts, no feed and no streaks. The app comes with music on it and plays offline with the screen off. New pieces download once as they are added, then play offline like the rest.

Questions

Does it block noise?

No. Nothing played through headphones removes the sound around you. Every piece carries a steady, even wash of sound that helps cover what is around you. It works alongside noise-cancelling headphones.

Is there an Android or web version?

The app is for iOS only. It runs on iPad as well, though it was designed for iPhone.

What comes after launch?

New rooms will be added in the future, and everyone subscribed gets each one.
